NHL grid questions
What conditions show up on the NHL grid?
Franchises carry it — the teams a player appeared for, with New York’s two clubs kept apart — and around them sit the trophies by name (the Hart, the Vezina, the Norris, the Calder and the Conn Smythe among them), All-Star Team selections, the position played, and the decade a player played in or was born in.
Which milestones appear?
Round career totals from the record: a thousand games, a thousand points, five hundred goals, and three hundred wins for a goaltender. Each is a whole-career total, not a total with the club the square crosses.
Are goaltenders in play?
Yes. Goaltender is a position condition of its own, and the Vezina and the three hundred wins are there for the players who spent their careers in net.
Which hockey players can you use on the NHL grid?
Everyone in the recorded NHL pool, skaters and goaltenders together, back through the Original Six and on to last season. Hockey careers travel, so a square crossing two franchises usually has a deep list of answers and the one you want is a short stop somewhere in the middle of a career.
How do All-Star Team selections work?
As a counted condition. A square can want one NHL All-Star Team selection, or a career with three or five of them — the postseason All-Star Teams the league votes, not an appearance at the midseason game.
Which conditions are about the player rather than the club?
Four of them. How many seasons a career ran to — eighteen, fifteen, ten or five. Which decade it was played in. Which decade the player was born in, which is a different question and often a surprising one. And the Hall of Fame, which counts the whole career and not the sweater the square names.
